Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what Boatie collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Boatie is a personal check-in service run by Peggy Pan, doing business as Boatie ("Boatie," "we," "us"). By using Boatie, including by texting our number, you agree to this policy.
What we collect
- What you give us when you sign up: your first name, mobile phone number, city (for your timezone), and optionally your email address.
- What you tell Boatie: the texts, voice messages, and photos you send to Boatie's number, and notes from calls with Boatie or a member of our team. This includes the names of the people you choose to use Boatie with and what you tell us about them.
- Message details: your phone number, the time messages were sent and received, and delivery status, which our messaging provider records in order to deliver texts.
How we use it
- To send you a weekly check-in question and to reply to what you share.
- To write, with your explicit yes each time, a short note about you for one person you chose, so they can reach out to you. We never share your exact words. We never send a note you have not approved.
- To remember what you have told us so that future questions are about your life, not generic ones.
- To improve Boatie. Members of our team read conversations to improve the questions and messages Boatie sends.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We share information only:
- With the people you choose, in the form of a short note you approved.
- With service providers that help us run Boatie, such as our messaging provider (to deliver texts and calls), our hosting and database provider, and AI providers that help draft Boatie's messages. They may process your information only to provide their service to us.
- If required by law, or to protect someone's safety.
Your choices
- Stop messages: reply STOP to any text from Boatie and you will receive no more messages. Reply START to rejoin.
- Say no to any note: nothing about you goes to anyone without your yes on that specific note.
- See, correct, or delete your information: text Boatie or email us and we will do it.
How long we keep it
For as long as you use Boatie, and up to 30 days after you ask us to delete your account, so we can complete the deletion. We may keep anonymized information that no longer identifies you.
Children
Boatie is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will text you before it takes effect.
